Caviar is known worldwide as a culinary delicacy, it’s also the key ingredient for the world leading luxury skin care brand La Prairie’s “Skin Caviar” collection since 1987. With its launch of Skin Caviar, La Prairie made the audacious choice of using Caviar Extract, drawn from the depths of rich waters, to infuse skin with the very source of life.

In August 2021, La Prairie has just launched the “Skin Caviar Nighttime Oil” as a new addition to the collection. La Prairie scientists explored the Uncharted realms of the night and created a new Swiss caviar incarnation, Caviar Retinol. A unique blend of caviar-derived retinol and caviar lipids, this nighttime oil with retinol is a line smoothing, skin firming fountain of youth elixir in a bottle!

As we all know retinol is very sensitive being expose to air, so this precious face oil is stored and bottled in a beautifully designed cobalt blue color glass jar, sealed in an opaque black inner vessel with dropper to extract the oil to maintain the most minimal air exposure, preserve the potency of the caviar retinol ingredient in the oil.

At once generous and silky, the formula soothes and cushions skin, for total indulgence. Over time, lines and wrinkles appear reduced, skin looks firmed, and moisture is sealed in, prolonging the elusive strength of caviar, beyond the night.

So, as a skincare product junkie, I just have to splurge and treat myself to get a bottle of this fabulous face oil. As you can see the caviar retinol oil is in a deep rich golden hue color, that has a very soothing and sophisticated aroma. For me the scent is very beautiful but a little bit strong for me! The scent does dissipate quickly. Just 4 ~ 6 drops can easily cover your while face and neck, so a little goes a long way! It absorbed quickly into your skin, does not feel greasy and sit on your skin like many of other face oils on the market.

After 2 weeks of using this face oil, I’ve noticed a dramatic change on how my skin looked and feel moisturized with healthy glow and bounce that appear more youthful looking. My skin tone also looks a little bit brighter maybe due to retinol ability to increase skin’s production of collagen, promote cell turnover, also stimulate the production of new blood vessels in the skin, which helps to fade age spots and softening rough patches of skin. I really enjoy using this face oil !

Many of us, including myself wondered in which step of our skin care routine should we apply the face oil. There are many theories out there, but I always followed the “Lightest to the Thickest” rule, which means you apply the lightest texture products such as your toner / essence to the mid-texture serums then your creams and seal it all into your skin with the oil. Remember, oil can penetrate creams and serums into your skin, but not the other way around! So, if you apply face oil right after you apply your toner / essence, then you are blocking out all the beneficial ingredients from the serums & creams you apply after the oil. So, remember, apply your face oil in the very last step of your skin care routine!
